Eligibility!

 Hello,

My name is Sravya Kotte, I live in Connecticut. I am going to be a senior next year. I am planning to major in Computer Science. I would love to get into GA Tech. I came to USA 4 years ago from India. So I had some tough time getting used to the culture, learning english, school sylabus, etc. I struggled a lot, during the first few years of my high school and i was just in couple honors classes. I am wondering if I can get in....

My GPA for the first 3 years is about 3.4-3.5. Top 20% of the class. I made Academic Honor and High Honor Roll, Connecticut Academic Performance Test(CAPT) Certificate of Mastery(Math and Science), Algebra I Student of the year award, Algebra II Student of the year award, Member of the National Honor Society.

Track and Field, Math Team, Human Relations Committee leader, Link Crew(Freshman Academy), Student Government Executive board, Board of Education representative, Student Advisory council leader. Volunteered at the library for more than 50 hours, and UTC Toy Drive (10 hours).

Honor courses that I took during the last 3 years are: Earth Science, biology, French II, chemistry, French III, British Literature, civics, elementary functions.

AP courses i will be taking next year = AP Physics, AP Calc

SAT score = 1710(CR= 530, MT= 650, WR= 530), are my SAT scores good enough?? should I take SAT Subject Tests?? if so what??? will they help my chances of getting into GA Tech??? and What about ACT???

Someone please let me know if I have what it takes to get into GA Tech!! ASAP!

Thanks in advance,

-Sravya

Re: Eligibility!

Georgia Tech sets no minimum requirements for admission.  We have a competitive admissions process which means the competitiveness of an applicant is based on their standing within each year's entire applicant pool.  Below you can find information on how our decisions are based and what we typically see from students who have been accepted in year's past.  Hopefully you can ascertain your chances from the information below.

* 1) GPA-- we look at your 9th-11th grade core curriculum-- (College Prep- eng, math, soc. science, lab science, and foreign lang.) We use an unweighted 4.0 scale-- 4 pts allotted for an A, 3 for a B, 2 for a C, and 1 for a D. We give an additional .5 pt for AP, IB, gifted, honors or magnet classes for grades of B,C,D. To be competitive for admission we recommend a GPA of 3.3 or better.

* 2 )We look at the SAT/ ACT: we combine scores, i.e. take your highest math and highest verbal score into consideration regardless of exam or exam date. To be competitive for admission 1220 and above is competitive and 1260-1400 was the mid 50% of our pool.

3 )We also consider your extra-curricular activities, work related activities and anything that you have participated in outside of the classroom. Clubs, organizations, community involvement, sports and work experience, academic recognition.

4 )Lastly, we ask that each applicant write an admissions essay. This should be an insightful and creative exposition that answers the question thoroughly. You should have this edited and reviewed but be sure that the essay is truly in your voice.

* NOTE: COMPETITIVE SCORES MENTIONED DO NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSIONS
I hope that this gives you an idea of our application process.
