High School Math and Science
Modified By anonymous on 6/14/2008 3:03:44 PM)

Dear Admission,

I go to South Forsyth High School. I had several questions regarding to high school credits required for GT. I am planning to apply as a undecided engineering major. I understand that one chemistry and two lab sciences are required, but what course do you consider as a lab science? I also understand that you require two algebra courses. I took Algebra I in middle school in Gwinnett County, but when I moved to Forsyth County, my high school counselor said that they would not transfer the Algebra I credit, and instead continued me to Algebra II AP Prep (Honors). I already have four credits (Algebra II AP Prep, Euclidean Geometry AP Prep, Advance Algebra and Trigonometry, and Statistics). I will be taking Calculus my senior year. Do I still need the Algebra I credit? Thank You.

Re: High School Math and Science
Well, the people who review admissions are ... people. They just might think "hmm, it's odd how this applicant seems to have had never taken Algebra 1 yet apparently he took up math classes up to Trig... he/she probably forgot to add in Algebra 1 to the self-reported credits list"; however, if you write down a small note telling us this I'm sure they'll understand.

Re: High School Math and Science

There is actually a section at the very end of the application that asks if you took any high school level courses in middle school.  You would just list Algebra I there and any foreign languages.  As far as I know, Algebra I didn't appear anywhere on my high school transcript but I got in just fine.  And looking at your post now, your advanced algebra and trig class should give you an algebra credit.  You should be okay in that arena.  I'm sure you're okay in the lab science area.  I'm pretty sure that as long as you take and pass all of the required sciences you're okay.  If you have any questions about which classes actually supply which credits ask your guidance counselor.
